Republicans Trying To Demonize Dean

The Republican propaganda machine is running full blast to demonize Vermont Governor and Democratic Presidential hopeful Howard Dean. The lie being promoted on Right Wing talk radio and Fox News is that Dean is just a traditional liberal. The Washington insider crowd and much of the Corporate media are pushing the idea that a Dean campaign would divide the Democratic Party by pulling the Party to the Left. Like most Republican spin, there is zero truth in these ridiculous accusations.

Howard Dean is very much in the mainstream of both the Democratic Party and the general public in terms of his position on the issues. Dean is a strong defender of gun rights and has long been supported by the NRA.

Republican politicians and Right Wing talk radio are falsely stating that Dean favors “gay marriage” when he actually supports only civil unions among same sex couples. This distinction is important and completely reflects the views of an overwhelming majority of Americans. His position protects traditional marriage. It is both fair and moderate.

Dean is very conservative on fiscal matters and has a record of actually balancing the budget in Vermont. The Republicans has completely abandoned their longstanding traditional conservative commitments to a balanced budget.

The Republicans fear Dean on the balanced budget issue. Dean both “talks the talk” and “walks the walk”! Bush looks like a liar when his words and actions are compared on this issue.

Huge tax cuts for people making over a half million dollars a year are the real cause of the growing federal debt along with “no bid” federal contracts and the ill-advised Iraq Invasion (without UN approval or international financial support). Dean was leading the opposition to all these failed Bush policies from day one.

Opposing a tax cut program that only benefit the richest handful of Americans is not essentially “liberal” or extreme. Favoring such a program is extreme. Supporting a war against a nation that did not attack us or pose a likely imminent threat is a very extreme position that abandons our traditional values on the issue of War. It is Bush who supports the extreme position on War, government secrecy and curtailing civil liberties as opposed to the more traditional American views expressed by Dean. Republicans fear Dean!
